Control Transformers
When an electronic circuit requires either constant voltage or constant current that has low power or volt amp rating, control transformers are used to provide this. Control transformers will use a filtering device like a capacitor to minimize the variations in the output which will provide a much better constant voltage and or current. Control transformers are designed to use with industrial applications. Things where electromagnetic devices like relays and solenoids will use the control transformers to maximize inrush capability and output voltage regulations when these devices are initially energized. High quality insulating materials are used in the design of the control transformers. This insulating material is used to electronically insulate all the windings in the control transformers. The windings that we are talking about are the turn to turn windings, the layer to layer windings, the primary to the secondary windings and ground. To seal the surface and eliminate moisture getting into the control transformers, they are vacuum impregnated with a VT polyester resin and then oven cured. When the whole unit is filled with this resin, a strong mechanical bond is realized and the unit will be protected from the environment. There are three characteristics of the load circuit that must be met for the proper control transformer specification. These three characteristics are total steady state VA, inrush load power factor and total inrush VA. The minimum voltage required to operate the circuit must be determined as well. Total steady state VA is the volt amps that the transformer must deliver to the load circuit during an extended period of time. The inrush power load factor is usually 40 percent power factor as this is difficult to determine without a detailed vector analysis of all the load components. The total inrush VA is the volt amp that the transformer must deliver during initial energizing of the control circuit. This takes approximately 30 to 50 milliseconds to energize. TEMCo offers a variety of control transformers and can even custom manufacture any control transformer to meet their customers specific needs. TEMCo is the source for the very best control transformers at the most economical rates.
